Meet one of our strategic investments: Sophie’s Kitchen

As we gear up for our pending listing to the CSE, we wanted to provide you with an update on what we’ve been working on at Billy Goat Brands. We’ve added 1 acquisition and 2 investments to our portfolio: 45% plant-based proteins, 40% functional foods, and 15% food technology.

We hold a 46% equity ownership in Sophie’s Kitchen, a plant-based seafood brand that has been growing exponentially both in revenues and throughout the U.S. and internationally. As sales of plant-based foods reached ~$7B in 2020 in the US alone, Sophie’s Kitchen is set to be a leader in this increasingly growing market. To achieve this goal, Sophie’s Kitchen has created strategic partnerships to support its aggressive growth.

Sophie’s Kitchen is led by Dr. Miles Woodruff MBA Ph.D., an entrepreneur, activist, and conservationist. Dr. Woodruff first recognized the opportunity and need for change in the way we consume and source our food, after having worked for Jane Goodall in the Congo. Here he learned the importance of observation and educating others about protecting the planet and how to consume more ethically. Dr. Woodruff continues to push Sophie’s Kitchen’s core mission of making plant-based food accessible to everyone and everywhere.

Sophie’s Kitchen Company Highlights

  • Sophie’s Kitchen’s product portfolio includes a line of gourmet sustainable Plant-Based Seafood That’s Tasty AF (As Fish); all Sophie’s Kitchen Plant-Based products are Vegan, Non GMO, Soy Free, and Gluten Free. Sophie’s Kitchen products include: Toona, Breaded Shrimp, Breaded Fish Fillet, Smoked Salmon, Crab Cakes, Black Pepper Toona, Sea Salt Toona, and internationally Naked Prawns and Scallops.

  • The retail footprint not only includes health and specialty retail outlets but also major grocers and foodservice.

  • Retail partners include: Walmart, Sprout’s Farmers Market, Amazon, Walgreens, and Stop Shop.

  • Distribution partners include: Unifi, Sysco, and Kehe.

  • Began production of “Toona” through their domestic co-packaging facility, including both flavours of ”Toona” launched on Amazon and at retail.

  • Sophie’s Kitchen’s revenue increased 4x since 2018.

Sophie’s Kitchen Investment Highlights

  • Billy Goat Brand’s has the rights to acquire up to 33% interest in Sophie’s Kitchen including share price warrants, in exchange for providing an existing credit facility.

  • Billy Goat Brand’s has been engaged to provide capital markets advisory and incubation services and review its process for a public listing on a North American stock exchange.

Media Highlights

Dr. Woodruff has been approached to be interviewed on a new documentary series about Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Sanctuary. A 6-part series, called “Rescued Chimpanzees of the Congo with Jane Goodall”. Which will be live on CuriosityStream (a division of the Discovery Channel) which showcases documentaries, TV shows, and short video content.

This complements the mission of Sophie’s Kitchen “To change the status quo of food production. Sophie’s Kitchen is a platform to drive positive social and environmental change at scale”.
